"I will drive the northern army far from you, pushing it into a parched and barren land." Joel 2:20
OLMERT HAS CANCER: PM Ehud Olmert announced Monday, Oct. 29th doctors had diagnosed him with mild prostate cancer. Olmert said he will undergo a surgical procedure expected to completely remove the microscopic growth and leave him with a 95% chance of full recovery. Doctors said there was almost no chance he would require chemotherapy treatments. Olmert said the cancer and planned surgical treatment will in no way inhibit his ability to govern the country and "carry out the mission which has been bestowed upon me." The PM is scheduled to attend a US-hosted Middle East peace summit in December where he is expected to offer a sweeping Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria leading to the creation of an Arab Muslim state on those ancient biblical lands. ALLEGED SYRIAN ATOMIC REACTOR 'VANISHES': Satellite images published late last week show the installation allegedly attacked by Israel on September 6, and considered by experts to be a fledgling nuclear reactor, has disappeared without a trace. US experts claimed the speed with which Syria hurried to clear up the rubble was indicative of its will to get rid of incriminating evidence. Satellite imagery also suggests the construction of the suspected Syrian nuclear reactor was underway as early as 2001. ( J.Post) "Your right hand was majestic in power. Your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy." Exodus 15:6
SYRIA TO ISSUE ID CARDS TO GOLAN HEIGHTS DRUZE: President Bashar Assad has ordered Syrian identification cards and numbers to be issued to Druze residing in the Golan Heights. He claims the dispersing of more than 18,000 ID cards will emphasize Syrian residents of the Golan Heights "belong to the Syrian motherland." Assad continues to maintain his nation's right to regain the entire Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and again in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. (Ynet)
ISRAELI-ARAB LEADERS WARN AGAINST NATIONAL SERVICE: Government plans are in place to further mandatory national service in place of military service for Israel's Arabs. Many Bedouin and Druze Arabs serve in the IDF, but Muslim Arabs have never been required to serve. Israeli-Arab leaders in a public meeting Oct. 27th warned young Arabs against taking part in any form of Israeli national service. One leader promised, "anyone who volunteers for national service will be treated like a leper, and will be vomited out of Arab society." National service assignments include work in hospitals, aid in preventing traffic accidents, promoting environmental awareness and acting as health assistants to the elderly. BBC REPORTER JOHNSTON RECALLS TIME IN CAPTIVITY: BBC reporter Alan Johnston revealed details of his 114 days of captivity by Gaza Strip terrorists for the first time late last week. Confined to a dingy room, handcuffed, with a hood over his head, Johnston said he felt at the lowest ebb in his life, in real danger and very frightened. At one point, a guard informed Johnston his captors would likely decide to kill him. The guard indicated he would be beheaded and the execution videoed. For the duration of his captivity, Johnston said he was always in fear of having his throat cut and watching the blood drain out of him. He described rehearsing time and again how to face such an event with dignity. Kidnappers finally freed him after rising pressure from Hamas. The ordeal was not entirely without worth as it deepened his sense of the value of freedom and life, said Johnston. SARKOZY SUPPORTS ISRAEL AGAINST IRAN: PM Ehud Olmert in last week's Paris meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy was elated to find the two leaders see eye to eye on the Iranian nuclear problem. Olmert said the two did not discuss a military strike but rather focused on how to succeed with diplomatic measures and what not to do in the event of setbacks. Sarkozy expressed support of the Jewish state regarding the Palestinian issue. He said Israel's security was not a topic for discussion, also that Israel's
establishment was a miracle that may have been the "central event of the twentieth century." ( J.Post) "Their kings will minister to you." Isaiah 60:10
EU CONDEMNS REPRESSION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN IRAN: The EU last week criticized Iran's growing oppression against all groups and individuals exercising their right to express their opinions, and at the escalation of restrictions on freedom of the press in the Islamic Republic. The UN condemned the closure of newspapers and magazines, as well as the arrest and persecution of journalists, web bloggers, and human rights defenders. University students in Teheran have also been recently imprisoned and even tortured for criticizing the government. (Digital Journal)
HEZBOLLAH THREATENS TO KIDNAP MORE ISRAELIS: Sheikh Naim Qasim speaking to supporters last week, insisted only by abducting Israelis could Hezbollah secure the release of Lebanese terrorists jailed in Israel. He pointed out how Israeli PM Ehud Olmert is ready to pay a "very high price" simply for information regarding abducted Israelis. Recently, Israel released a mentally ill Hezbollah fighter and returned the bodies of two Lebanese gunmen. This was in exchange for an Israeli corpse that washed up on a Lebanese beach in 2005 and a letter abducted Israeli airman Ron Arad wrote to his wife 20 years ago. (Israel Today) "Though they plot evil against you...they cannot succeed." Psalm 21:11
BREAST CANCER OFTEN UNTREATED IN MIDEAST: Breast cancer is the leading killer of women in the United Arab Emirates because the stigma surrounding the disease prevents them from seeking early detection. One Saudi woman ignored a cancerous growth in her breast fearing she might be referred to a male doctor. Another woman was immediately divorced by her Muslim husband upon the mere suspicion she was ill with the disease. In a third case a woman was forcibly dragged from a mammogram machine because the technicians were male. Saudis have some of the world's finest medical equipment and free medical care. How tragic many wives and mothers suffer and perish because of harsh religious taboos. (Yahoo) "From callous hearts comes iniquity." Psalm 73:7
MUSLIM PRISONERS SUE FOR MILLIONS AFTER BEING OFFERED HAM FOR RAMADAN : Someone made a big mistake on a UK prison menu and offered ham sandwiches to more than 200 Muslim inmates during Ramadan. In return, the prisoners are preparing a multi-million pound claim for compensation saying their human rights were violated. Each could be entitled to up to £10,000 in compensation if they win their case. Prison officers on duty said the menus had been printed in error when Muslim prisoners complained about the choice of evening meals which included a ham sandwich option. Later when they opened the sandwiches, having ordered cheese, some claim they were still filled with pork. This could turn out to be a prison snack at gourmet prices, compliments of UK taxpayers.
