Daily, almost hourly, we here in Israel hear the unending accusations of the world, spewing out like a flood to drown us. Today, for example, Egypt, with whom we have a cold peace agreement, has accused Israel of trying to ruin their tourist industry. This is because a warning, based on intelligence, was issued to Israeli citizens to leave the Sinai as a group of Al Qaida terrorists had entered there to attack or kidnap Israelis. Yesterday I got word of a new pan-Europe attempt to impose a boycott of Israeli academia, because of "war crimes" in the Gaza war, and "oppression" of the Palestinians. Both of these cases were clear attempts to protect the citizens of our country from attack, especially from eight years of rockets from Gaza. In Britain, Arab propaganda had succeeded in bringing a number of trade unions to boycott Israeli products, and Sweden had refused to unload Israeli merchant ships. Our former ally Turkey, is regularly accusing us of crimes in stopping their provocation in sending a ship to Gaza, and our preventing of more arms from entering Hamas's Gaza Strip through a blockade.
Closer to home, the Hezbollah terrorists on our border with Lebanon are boasting of their readiness for war with Israel as they accumulate tens of thousands of long range missiles from Syria and Iran. And of course Iran's leadership regularly declares its intention of destroying Israel, even as they move toward atomic weaponry. The Hamas leadership on our border in Gaza regularly declares its intention of destroying the Jews as their religious duty, and that they will never recognize Israel. Our neighbors in Jordan, with whom we have a peace treaty, continually blame Israel for "agression".
Even some of our friends in America have also declared some of our communities to be "illegal", even the town where my children and grandchildren live, which is the restoring of empty desert near Jerusalem to a lovely, green community bursting with apartments and parks and trees and shops and schools and Life.
The United Nations, while iognoring the real outrages and slaughters around the world, is regularly condemning us for the construction of the security fence, which was erected to keep out the numerous suicide bombers that we had suffered in our cities. This most passive of defenses is also called "a crime", though it has happily been successful. We are daily on guard against Arab infiltrators, and many stll succeed in coming in to our communities and steal cars and the contents of homes.
The Catholic church has decided at their recent synod that Israel can make no claims from he Bible to any ownership of the Biblical Land of Israel, as has the World Council of Churches. Perhaps it is also happening in your church.
Now the Palestinians are accusing Israel of responsibility for their not entering peace talks due to construction of "settlements." Though Israel froze construction for a ten month period during which the Arabs still refused to talk peace. And the apartment construction now referred to is in but well established Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem. The "Settlements" are called "impediments to peace", while before any of those Jewish communites existed we faced a war of annihilation in 1967 which Israel, by the mercy and grace of G-d, won against overwhelming odds.
Our crime, according to our accusers, is living, building homes, and defending our lives and homes. Israel is the freest nation in the region, where Jew and Arab, white and black, men and women have opportunites to succeed in education and profession, may vote and enter politics, may practice freely any religion, and have universal healthcare for all. Most of the countries in this region condemning us do not have those freedoms for all, or at all. And they are our accusers, our prosecuting attorneys in the World Court, attempting daily to deligitimize our very existence.
We are watching as our Muslim neighbors daily slaughter each other mercilessly in Iraq, even in their mosques and churches, and imagine how they would deal with us if given free rein. So perhaps you can understand Israel's reluctance to trust the intentions of our Arab neighbors?
Please pray for this maligned, beleaguered, and falsely accused little country who exists in a dangerous and deceptive region. We look toward our only defence attorney, the G-d of Israel and His Messiah, and the Word of our King.
"Now when the dragon (Satan, the Accuser) saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman (Israel) who gave birth to the male child (the Messiah)...so the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth (the Land) helped the woman and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of its mouth. And the dragon was enraged with the woman , and went to make war with the rest of her offspring who kept the commandments of G-d, and have the testimony of Yeshua the Messiah."
